Hi all,
I wanted to check if somebody has already attempted this.
I don't need wireless connectivity but I do need as much storage as possible. So I was planning on getting a 2230 NVMe to replace the wireless wan card.
Does anybody know if the BIOS will accept that?
Additionally, I had originally replaced the thermal paste with PTM7950and now with a normal thermal paste (Ceramique 2) but I can't get idle temps to be lower than 50c (for a 20c room temp, on a flat surface with 0 dust in the fan/heatsink). The fact that the fan does not spin up much makes me think that the fan curve is extremely biased towards being silent. Has anybody had any success trying to control the fan?

Re: AM06 Replacing WWAN with NVMe
Though I can't answer your question about the WiFi card replacement with a drive, I can tell you that the CPUs in these units tend to run a bit warm. I have three PCs that have the Ryzen 5 5600U CPU. An AM06 Pro and an AMR5, both from this company, and a laptop from a different company, and all run fairly warm, even at idle.
I replaced the thermal paste on the first two using Arctic MX-6, and it did bring the temps down a little, but not a lot, and they still regularly idle in the 50s. Not just after startup, but after they've been on for a bit.
Because I'm not a power user and don't have need for strong graphics performance, what I ended up doing was changing the "Max processor state" in the power options from 100% to 99%, keeping the "Min processor state at 5%". What this does is disable the "boost" part of the CPU. This brought the temps down noticeably. I used a "Balanced" power setting, which is the default. And because I don't do anything that needs raw CPU or graphics power, I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever.
Having said all this, though heat certainly is the biggest enemy of electronics, a PC idling in the 50s isn't a bad thing. So if you need the power that adjusting the max processor state would take away, I wouldn't bother doing so, nor would I worry about it. If it was idling in the 70s or 80s, then I'd start worrying.

Re: AM06 Replacing WWAN with NVMe
The network card cannot be replaced. The CPU temperature of 30℃ ~ 50℃ in idle state is very normal, especially under good heat dissipation conditions. After you replaced it with Ceramique 2, the temperature was higher than PTM7950. Could this be related to the thermal conductivity of the thermal paste?ArgRaiker wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 1:51 pm Hi all,
