Win10 Tips and Tricks-Part 2

Post by admin »

We created the second part of the tutorial. I hope you can develop more WIN10 systems and find settings that are convenient for you to use. The first link: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=626

7. Remove ads in the "Start" menu

When running Windows 10 with default settings, you may sometimes see applications on the Start menu's right side. Microsoft calls them "recommendations," but they are actually advertisements for Windows Store apps that you can buy.
To remove ads in the Start menu of Windows 10, go to "Settings"> "Personalization"> "Start." In the "Start" position, switch the setting called "Show suggestions occasionally" to the off position.

8. Close background apps

Apps running in the background can receive information, send notifications, and stay up-to-date even when you are not using them-this can be useful. Still, if you connect via a mobile device, it can also consume battery and data hotspots.
To control which apps run in the background, and save some battery power and data, go to Settings>Privacy>Background apps. To stop all apps from running in the background, switch "Let apps run in the background" to "Off." You can also select the application you want to run separately in the background by down the list on the same page.

9. Use background scrolling

With Windows 10, you can scroll up and down on any window-even if it is not the one you are directly using. This is a useful tool when you open many windows to browse in the same window. If you want to open a new sub-menu option in a new window, Time-For example will save you time clicking back and forth on the same page.
Try to open two programs-for examples, an Internet browser page, and a notepad or Word document. Arrange both on the screen so that you can see at least some of the content on each text. When in one window, hover the mouse or use the touchpad to move to the second window and scroll. Even if you are not active in that window, it should allow you to move up and down the page.
By default, this feature should be enabled, but if it is not enabled, go to "Settings"> "Devices"> "Mouse," and then switch it to "On" when "Scroll inactive windows too." You can then place the mouse on the window in the background and use the scroll wheel to scroll.

10. Display the file extension in the file explorer

Microsoft hides file extensions by default, which is difficult for people who need to find specific types of files (such as JPEG and JPG). To view file extensions in File Explorer, do the following:
1. Go to the search bar at the bottom of the screen and type "File Explorer Options," and click on it. (There are many other ways to get here, but this seems to be the fastest.)
2. In the pop-up window, click the View tab.
3. Uncheck the "Hide extensions of known file types" check box. Click "Apply" and then "OK." You should now see the file extensions of all files in the file explorer.
You can also use the "File Explorer Options" menu to choose to display empty drives, hidden files, and folders, etc.

11. Use Focus to help reduce distraction

When you are constantly interrupted by notifications, it can be frustrating to get the job done. You can determine how much help you get with Focus Assist. Focus Assist is a Windows 10 tool added in the April 2018 update.
Go to Settings>System>Focus Assist to set. Choose from the following three options: Off (get all notifications from apps and contacts), priority (view only selected notifications in the custom priority list and send the rest to the action center), and alarms only (Hide all notifications but alerts).
You can also choose to automatically turn on this feature during certain hours or while playing games.
