How to Install (Native) NVIDIA Drivers on M2A

Post by TVHD »

How to Install Native NVIDIA Drivers on M2A
1. Target:
My target is still, to be able to complete a standard windows installation based on Microsoft localized ISO-files only.
using Windows11 Pro, 26100.712 (24H2)
2. Preparation:
a. Identify the Hardware-ID of your card, which is independent of an already installed driver and shows also in case of “Microsoft Basic Display Adapter”:
Attachment 1) How to Install Native NVIDIA Drivers on M2A.png
b. Download “GeForce Game Ready-Driver”:
552.44-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe
c. Extract this archive to C:/NVIDIA (e.g. using WinRAR 7.01)
d. Run a PowerShell-Window as Administrator to turn the “test mode” on:
bcdedit /set testsigning on
e. reboot
3. Patch
a. cd C:/NVIDIA/Display.Driver
b. Identify the .inf-file containing appropriate Hardware-IDs
c. I found C:/NVIDIA/Display.Driver/nvtfig.inf
Add your card to relevant section 1:
NVIDIA_DEV.249C.1148.1D05 = "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU"
NVIDIA_DEV.249C.1194.1D05 = "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU"
NVIDIA_DEV.249C.119A.1D05 = "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU"
NVIDIA_DEV.249C.119F.1D05 = "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU"
NVIDIA_DEV.249C.120F.1D05 = "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU"
NVIDIA_DEV.249C.10DE.10DE = "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU"

Add your card to relevant section 2:
%NVIDIA_DEV.2460.1219.1D05% = Section042, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_2460&SUBSYS_12191D05
%NVIDIA_DEV.249C.10DE.10DE% = Section043, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_249C&SUBSYS_000010DE
%NVIDIA_DEV.249C.1114.1D05% = Section043, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_249C&SUBSYS_11141D05

d. Save the modified C:/NVIDIA/Display.Driver/nvtfig.inf
4. Install
a. Execute C:/NVIDIA/setup.exe
Attachment 2) How to Install Native NVIDIA Drivers on M2A.png
b. Run a PowerShell-Window as Administrator to turn the “test mode” off:
bcdedit /set testsigning off
c. Reboot

5. Fail:

Obviously my current knowledge is limited, and additional contribution is needed and welcome. :D

Great writeup. Thank you! Did you see any performance gains with the native driver?

The errors shown in attachments 3) and 4) lead to an NVIDIA GPU without function.
The full graphic load is operated by the iGPU.

I couldn't find a simple solution to solve error (code 43).
I'm hoping for a contribution by an user with expertise on this topic.

Or: An updated taylored driver provided by @barry777 :D

Currently I'm avoiding my (new) 24H2 installation and enjoy the 23H2 installation provided with the M2A.

Especially since 24H2 is still only beta.

Since beginning of April there are (most probably leaked by Lenovo sources) LTSC versions
like "26100.1.240331-1.435.ge_release_CLIENT_ENTERPRISES_OEM_x64FRE_en-us.iso"
and "26100 1 240331-1435 ge release CLIENT ENTERPRISES OEM x64FRE DE-DE.ISO" available.

I've also seen 24H2 pop up in RMM and on-site update management tools like WSUS. And it was definitely not labeled as a preview release. I guess they released it with this months patches but not every device will request it.

It's a pre-release build, meaning it's still in the testing phase.

Re: How to Install (modified by “Tcleehcd Corporation”) NVIDIA Drivers on M2A

Post by TVHD »

Meanwhile Barry has published the (modified by “Tcleehcd Corporation”) driver "551.76-nb-1234x-win10-win11-64bit-20240308.exe"

I've decided to use this driver in two alternate installations of w11 (24H2) I'm operating on my M2A besides of the 23H2 installation provided by CYX.
Main reason: Additional work on a 23H2-installation is not useful, because I presume @barry777 will publish the default installation in this forum.

The status of 24H2 is explained best by "Copilot" (i.e. Source: Conversation with Copilot, 5/29/2024):
I’ve asked MS AI Copilot about the leaked “Windows 11 Build 26100.1 LTSC”, and the hyperlinks following are part of Copilot’s answer:

“Yes, there are reports of a leaked version of **Windows 11 Build 26100.1 LTSC** (Long Term Servicing Channel). This version was apparently leaked online before its official release¹. Microsoft is expected to officially release the **Windows 11 24H2 LTSC** in the fall, but insiders and interested users already have the opportunity to test the leaked version in a virtual machine¹. The LTSC version is known for coming without many pre-installed apps and focusing on stability and long-term support¹.
Please note that downloading and using leaked software versions carries risks and may violate copyright laws. It is always safer to wait for the official release from Microsoft.”
